CLASP is a transformative effort by the Caribbean Philanthropic Alliance that unites funders and multi-sector stakeholders to commit to climate action and drive innovative solutions for a resilient Caribbean.
The Caribbean's urgent context catalyzed the creation of CLASP — Climate Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships. CLASP recognizes that climate change affects every part of life in the Caribbean — from health and education to gender, culture, and economy. Despite minimal contributions to global emissions, Caribbean nations bear the brunt of the climate crisis.
Operating through a shared-commitment framework, it fosters regional collaboration and strengthens funders' capacities using a seven-pillar model. While climate finance has been widely studied, Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are often grouped with Latin America — limiting visibility into their specific needs and funding flows.
CLASP has responded to this gap by aligning with the International Philanthropy for Climate Commitment to mobilize and support the Caribbean. The goal is to cultivate greater climate consciousness, set measurable targets, track impact, improve access to funding, and encourage climate-smart project design.
CLASP therefore aims to catalyze more effective, locally-championed climate philanthropy across the Caribbean.
CLASP aligns with #PhilanthropyForClimate, a global movement engaging funders in climate leadership. Hosted regionally by the Caribbean Philanthropic Alliance, CLASP brings the Caribbean into global climate philanthropy conversations. Through the International Philanthropy for Climate Commitment, more than 915 are integrating climate into their missions. CLASP offers Caribbean funders a structured platform to mobilize unified climate action.
Caribbean Climate Funders CommitmentThe Climate Journey Levels and the Seven Pillars of the International Commitment are key components of a structured framework developed to guide foundations and philanthropic organizations in aligning with climate action. Climate levels help funders self-assess and track their progress in implementing the seven pillars.
